Semboku International Drone Film Festival Rules and Guidelines

CHALLENGE YOUR LIMITS

With the advance technologies such as AI autonomous operations and obstacle avoidance system, everyone can operate a drone and conduct aerial shooting easily. The technologies have been fully developed and aerial shooting is getting more and more popular. From now on, how to create new visual images by drone and how to express them in a different way would be a new challenge to the whole world.

It is time to test our creativity! How would you create the world with the latest technology? Here will the beginning for your “challenge and adventure trip”. We are looking forward to seeing the new world created by you and your drone.

SUBJECT AND THEME

This contest is open to all drone lovers in the world. There is NO specific requirement on THEME or SUBJECT for the entry films.

JUDGING

All films will be judged on the creativity, technical excellence, composition and overall impact. Films do not follow the rules and guidelines will not be judged.

ENTRY RULES

    1. Film duration should be within 5 minutes.
    2. At least 50% must be shot by drones.
    3. Multiple entries by the same entrant are accepted.
    4. All entrants should comply with the drone safety regulations or guidelines in his/ her country during shooting and filming. Entrants who violated the safety rules will be disqualified.
    5. Films which are shot dangerously or contain elements of discrimination will be rejected.
    6. Films have been won any award in any contest or exhibition will not be accepted. Entrants authorize the organizer the right to use their entries including but not limited to the promotional and curatorial purposes without any compensation or fees. (Copyright of the entry/entries still belongs to the entrant)
    7. Any entry involving copyright infringement will be disqualified. The entrant must own the copyright of his/her participating film.  It is the entrants’ responsibility to secure authorization and permission from the copyright owner(s) of any copyrighted materials included within all submitted film(s).   Copyrighted materials examples: movies produced by a third party, TV programs/drama, music, promotion video, animation, game images, contents include company name, organization name and product name. 
    8. Awarded films will be used in the following purposes.
      1. Copied and shown during screenings for promotion presentations.
      2. Shown on any promotional materials including paper materials and homepages.
      3. Copied by the organizer for recording purposes.Awarded films will be shown on homepages within a certain period.  The organizer has the right to amend, edit, copy and/or translate in any ways for promotional purposes. 
    9. The organizer will not be held responsible for any damage, delayed entries or any lost related to the application of this film festival.
    10. After the award announcement, aside from the purposes of recording or promotion, other usages of the awarded films such as publication, video conversion, broadcasting, regardless of whether or not compensation is received, details will be discussed separately between the organizer and the entrant.
    11. All entries cannot be returned once they are submitted.

SUBMISSIONS

Upload your film to YouTube or any other online video platforms, set it as a SECURE video with a PASSWORD, then copy the VIDEO URL address to your entry form.

SCHEDULE

Application deadline: 15th January 2019 (Japan Time).
Evaluation:
1st round evaluation will be held at the beginning of February 2019.
2nd round evaluation will be held in Mid-February 2019.
Final result will be announced at Semboku International Drone Film Festival awards ceremony on 21st March 2019.

These rules and guidelines have been translated into English. If there is any inconsistency or ambiguity between the English version and the Japanese version, the Japanese version shall prevail.
